Notion already offers incredible value in the Free Plan. First, many restrictions for free users were removed, so that even more features are freely available, and then Notion even expanded its free version in 2022.
However, there are still limits to be aware of, of course. In this post, I’ll show you the most important limitations of Notion if you want to use it for free.
This was of course only a short answer. I will explain more in detail in this post.
Important: All of the limits I cover in this post are for the Free plan only. For all other tiers (Plus, Business and Enterprise) there are no or different limits.
Are there limits to the number of Pages and Blocks?
In Notion’s Free Plan there is no limit to the number of blocks. If you use Notion for free, there is no block limit. However, if you want to use the paid Plus Plan, there is a limit of 1000 blocks to the paywall.
In Notion’s old pricing model, there was a limit on the total number of blocks in an account in the free version. This was 1000 blocks.
A block in Notion can be many things: a paragraph, an image, a video or even an embedded PDF.
With the block limit, there was therefore also an implicit limit for the number of pages. Of course, you couldn’t create more than 1000 pages (and these pages would then each contain only one heading).
Change of the pricing model in 2020
Then in the spring of 2020, Notion changed the pricing model and removed this limit altogether. This means no matter if you pay for Notion or not, you can create as many pages and blocks as you want – Completely without limitation 😀
Recently, Notion has adapted the pricing model again and expanded the features in the free plan once more:
How much storage does Notion offer – Is there a limit?
The great news is: there is no limit to the storage space. That means even as a free user, you can claim as much storage as you want.
Limit for file upload
However, there is a catch here (There has to be some one). When uploading files, the size is limited to a maximum of 5 MB. Even if you can basically upload all file types (images, videos, audios, PDFs), this is often not possible, because the individual files are too large.
A normal-sized video or audio file usually has already way more than 5 MB.
So this way, Notion makes sure that you as a free user do not use too much storage space, but only a few GB at most.
If you want to work with larger files in Notion, you have to subscribe to a paid plan: For example Plus.
How many guests can I invite to Notion?
First of all, you have to distinguish between guests and members:
- Guests are external users that you can invite to specific Notion Pages. They do not have access to the entire workspace. Guests exist in every Notion Plan.
- Members exist only in the paid plans of Notion. They have access to the entire workspace.

In the free Personal Plan, you can invite a total of 10 different users as guests. Starting with the paid Personal Pro Plan, you can even invite an unlimited number of guests.
If you want to learn more about the differences between guests and members in Notion you can check out this post: Guests vs. Members.
Is there a limit of pages per guest?
In Notion, there is no limit to how many pages a single guest can be invited to. You have to invite a guest to each page individually, but there is no limit. This means that you can theoretically invite a guest to all your pages.
Is there a limit of guests per page?
Yes, there actually is. In Notion, you can invite a maximum of 1000 guests to a page.
On how many devices can I use Notion?
One of the biggest advantages of Notion is being able to sync your notes and data across devices. Your pages are the same everywhere. Best of all, there is no limit to the number of devices.
That means you can link as many devices to your account as you want – even as a free user 🥳
And that is really remarkable. If you look at Notion’s competitor Evernote, for instance, you can see that free users can only sync 2 devices there.
Notion – Few limits many possibilities
In summary, Notion has very few limitations overall – even if you don’t pay anything.
The only real limits that free users face are the maximum file size of 5 MB for uploads and the limit of 10 guests. There are even no limits at all for blocks, devices or storage.
When you look in comparison to the features and possibilities offered, this is really impressive. If you even opt for a paid plan (or use the Pro plan free as a student), there are virtually no limits anymore.
